Grab your gear
Standard hockey gear gets you on the ice. Borrowed or secondhand is totally fine to start, just ask the group.
Show up and have fun
Sign the arena waiver, pay the small ice-time fee, and lace up. We'll take care of the rest. Let's gooooo!

I've never played hockey. Can I really join?+
Yes. Maine Chill is built for first-timers and folks easing back onto the ice after time away. You'll be surrounded by people who get it, and the vibe is all about learning, laughing, and high-fives.
What gear do I need?+
Standard hockey gear: skates, helmet, gloves, shin guards, elbow pads, shoulder pads, hockey pants, and a stick. If you're not ready to buy, ask in the group. Plenty of us have started with borrowed or secondhand gear.
How do I sign up for a skate?+
Join the team on BenchApp to see the schedule and RSVP. Each skate has a small ice-time fee (usually around $16) paid via Venmo, Apple Cash, or cash at the rink.
Where do you play?+
Sessions are around the Portland and Falmouth area. Many of our skates are at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
Do I have to be good?+
Not at all. If another player is closer to the puck, let them take the play and enjoy the moment. We're here to build confidence and have a great time together.
What if I'm a guy?+
Maine Chill is a women's hockey community, but guys are welcome to join as subs when we need to fill out a session. Reach out and we'll fit you in as we have room. And you're always welcome to come cheer us on from the stands.
Can I just come watch first?+
Absolutely. Anyone is welcome to watch from the seating around the rink. Come see what it's about, then lace up when you're ready.
